Air-conditioned interior loungeWe now offer our own tailor made Similan Islands and Koh Bon day trips onboard the M/V Nam Sai, giving you the opportunity to dive these famous islands and return home to your hotel/resort at the end of the day. Departing daily, we offer two contrasting dives on two different dive sites at the Similan Islands, or two dives at Koh Bon with a chance to dive/snorkel with the visiting manta rays that often come to visit this island – please see the schedule below. Trips depart from Thap Lamu harbour at approximately 08.30hrs and the crossing takes about 3 hours.

Onboard you will find a spacious dive deck, an open air lounge with self service area, an air-conditioned interior lounge with TV and bar, fresh water showers and a sun deck. We welcome both divers and snorkellers onboard and have dedicated dive guides and experienced snorkel guides plus a non-diving boat supervisor to co-ordinate the trip and ensure you are looked after at all times.

On a typical day, we will collect you from your resort/hotel in Khao Lak and transfer you to the harbour. Once everyone is onboard, we depart from the harbour on or before 08.30hrs.

After departure you will receive a boat briefing and safety instructions to familiarise you with your surroundings and be introduced to your dive/snorkel guide who will be looking after you for the day. Shortly after the briefings, a buffet style breakfast will be served.

The crossing to the Islands is leisurely and an enjoyable part of the trip. You have many choices as to how to enjoy this time – some people prefer to sit around the tables on the open air middle deck and socialise with other passengers and our staff, whilst many choose to sit in the shade on the benches at the front of the boat and watch the Islands approach. Sun lovers can retreat to the open air sun deck (best enjoyed earlier in the day when the sun is not so strong) or spread their towels on the bow on the lower deck.

And there is always the option of retiring to the air-conditioned lounge when you need to cool off - maybe to watch one of the nature programmes on TV, to enjoy a drink with your fellow travellers around our onboard bar (non-alcoholic for divers on the way out!), or even just to relax on the comfortable sofas with one of our onboard magazines.

During the crossing divers will be approached by their dive guide and be given a full brief on the upcoming dive site. We also have a snorkelling guide onboard and snorkellers will also receive their own briefing before being kitted out with our snorkelling equipment. On arrival at the Islands we immediately do our first dive/snorkel, and on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays we additionally offer non-divers a transfer to a beach.

Our choice of dive/snorkel sites is tailored to suit the needs of our divers/snorkellers onboard that day, and we consider your certification level, the amount of boats on available dive sites and the rise and fall of the tide. We usually choose two sites close to each other, with dive students and novice divers diving a less challenging site than our experienced divers. At all times, when we have divers and snorkellers in the water, the Nam Sai or her dinghy will be nearby.

After the first dive/snorkel session lunch is served - this is buffet style and spans a period of 2 hours, allowing you to dine at your leisure - remember to let us know if you have any special food requirements that we need to cater for, and there is always a vegetarian option available.  Then there is time to relax or go for a snorkel from the boat (unsupervised) before we move the boat to the second dive/snorkel site of the day, usually on an adjacent island for the maximum variety. Immediately after the second dive we begin our return cruise to the harbour.

During the return crossing our fully stocked bar serving soft drinks, beer, wine, spirits and cocktails is again open (to everyone this time!) and we will also serve a hot snack on the middle deck. Tea, coffee, fruit and biscuits are available free of charge at all times. Our dive staff will be at hand to help you complete your log books and identify any interesting underwater life you may have encountered.

On our Koh Bon days (and Similan Island days if we are lucky!) we ask you to take part in our manta ray identification project by taking underwater photographs of any mantas you may have encountered. All mantas have individual markings and this enables us to see how long each particular ray stays in the same area.

This information is then sent to an international organisation as part of a worldwide project. Also on the return journey you will have a chance to view and purchase the video our onboard videographer has made during your trip. On return to the harbour at approximately 18.30hrs we will transfer you to your hotel/resort in Khao Lak.
